Airplane and free onward flight ticket — Taiwan visa and proof of onward travel by MyJet24
The Taiwan visa boarding-gate problem

One missing onward ticket. Two outcomes: denied boarding or smooth check-in.

Airlines and Taiwan border officers verify your proof of onward travel at check-in and on arrival. Travellers without it get pulled aside, sometimes refused boarding entirely — losing the fare, the visa appointment, and days of trip planning.

  • Real airline PNR & QR code — verifiable in airline systems, not a generic PDF mock-up.
  • 30-second generation, zero credit card — no signup, no upsell, no fake "verified" badges.
  • Accepted at every Taiwan entry point — the same format 1.2M+ travellers already use to clear immigration worldwide.

Onward ticket — Taiwan

An onward ticket for Taiwan is a verifiable EVA Air, China Airlines or Starlux flight reservation that National Immigration Agency (NIA) officers and Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) check-in agents require as proof of onward travel for visa-free entry. Passport holders from the USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Korea enjoy 90 days visa-free — no application, but since October 1, 2025 the free online Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) at twac.immigration.gov.tw is mandatory before boarding (it replaced the paper card). Visa-free stays are generally not extendable, with one exception: UK and Canadian passport holders can extend once in-country to a total of 180 days. MyJet24 issues a TPE- or KHH-routed PDF with a real PNR — free, no credit card required.

An onward ticket for Taiwan is the document airlines and immigration officers want to see at the boarding gate or border control, not the embassy. It demonstrates you have a confirmed plan to leave Taiwan before your authorised stay expires. This page focuses on what to show at check-in, what immigration officers verify, and what backup options you have if asked questions at the border.

What Taiwan Immigration Officers Actually Check

Immigration officers in Taiwan verify three things: (1) the booking shows a real flight number and route leaving Taiwan, (2) the date is within your visa-stay window, and (3) the passenger name matches your passport. They do NOT verify payment status — a held GDS reservation is the standard. MyJet24 generates the format airline check-in agents and immigration counters expect to see.

Real Border Stories — Onward Tickets That Worked at Taiwan Entry

In our anonymised feedback database from 200,000+ travellers, fewer than 1 % were rejected at Taiwan immigration when presenting a MyJet24 onward ticket. Common officer questions cluster around three areas: stay duration ("how long are you here?"), funds proof, and onward route. The PDF answers question 3 directly; questions 1 and 2 require the traveller to speak confidently.

Entry Note for Taiwan
Taiwan grants 90-day visa-free entry to most Western passport holders. Since October 1, 2025 every foreign visitor must submit the online Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) before the flight, and immigration requires proof of onward travel — airlines check a return or onward ticket at check-in.

Taiwan Carrier Liability — Immigration Act + NIA/CAA + Mandatory TWAC Since October 2025

Taiwan's carrier sanctions framework rests on the Immigration Act of the Republic of China, enforced by the National Immigration Agency (NIA) under the Ministry of the Interior, with aviation oversight by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Carriers that board passengers without valid entry documentation for Taiwan face TWD-denominated administrative fines per inadmissible passenger plus full liability for return transport and holding costs — the standard incentive structure that makes EVA Air, China Airlines and Starlux check onward tickets systematically at check-in.

Taiwan's most significant recent entry-process change is the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), mandatory since 1 October 2025: the free online card at twac.immigration.gov.tw fully replaced the paper arrival card and must be submitted within 3 days before arrival. Airlines increasingly verify the TWAC confirmation together with the onward ticket at check-in, because an incomplete entry file raises the carrier's own INAD exposure. Visa policy itself is generous — roughly 65 nationalities enter visa-free for up to 90 days — which concentrates enforcement on the two documents a visa-free traveller must actually have: a valid passport and proof of onward travel.

TPE vs TSA vs KHH/RMQ — NIA Enforcement by Airport

Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)
Taiwan's primary gateway — the vast majority of long-haul and regional arrivals. Full NIA verification stack: passport validity, TWAC lookup, onward-travel questioning for visa-free entries, biometrics. EVA Air, China Airlines, Starlux and all foreign long-haul carriers arrive here. Highest scrutiny for one-way arrivals and long visa-free stays.
Taipei Songshan (TSA)
Downtown city airport for selected regional routes (Tokyo Haneda, Seoul Gimpo, cross-strait). Business-traveller dominant, small arrival halls, fast NIA processing — but identical legal requirements. TWAC and onward proof rules apply exactly as at TPE.
Kaohsiung (KHH) & Taichung (RMQ)
Southern and central gateways with regional networks (Japan, Korea, SE Asia, Hong Kong). Lower traffic and shorter queues; NIA applies the same framework with pragmatic tone. China Airlines serves KHH long-haul; Tigerair Taiwan and LCCs dominate RMQ. Same TWAC + onward requirements.

Taiwan Visa-Free (90 Days), TWAC, BOCA Visitor Visa, and Onward Ticket Implications

Taiwan runs one of Asia's most generous visa-free programmes — roughly 65 nationalities enter without any application — combined with one of its newest digital entry layers: the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), mandatory for every foreign visitor since 1 October 2025. Visa policy is administered by BOCA (Bureau of Consular Affairs, boca.gov.tw); border control and the TWAC by the NIA. The onward-ticket requirement applies to all visa-free entries and is enforced primarily by carriers at origin check-in via TIMATIC.

Visa-Free 90 Days (≈65 nationalities)
US, UK, all EU/Schengen states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and more. Conditions: passport valid 6+ months, confirmed onward or return ticket within 90 days, submitted TWAC. No fee, no application — the onward ticket IS the application-level document carriers verify.
TWAC — Mandatory Since Oct 2025
Free online arrival card at twac.immigration.gov.tw, filed within 3 days before arrival; replaced the paper card completely. One card per traveller per entry, children included. Keep the confirmation e-mail — airlines increasingly ask for it together with the onward ticket.
Extension — UK & Canada Exception
Visa-free stays are generally NOT extendable. Sole exception: UK and Canadian passport holders may apply once to the NIA before day 90 and extend to a total of 180 days. Everyone else must exit (fresh TWAC + onward ticket on re-entry) or obtain a visitor visa beforehand.
BOCA Visitor Visa (non-exempt nationals)
Application via visawebapp.boca.gov.tw + Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO). Requires flight itinerary or reservation — BOCA explicitly accepts reservations instead of paid tickets. Typical processing 3-7 working days; 4.5×3.5 cm photos, bank statements, accommodation proof.
Travel Authorization Certificate (SE Asia)
Conditional online authorization for eligible nationals of India, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand and Brunei who hold valid visas or residence permits from designated third countries. Free, multi-entry, 14-day stays — onward ticket still required at check-in.

Valid Onward Proof at TPE, TSA, KHH and RMQ — NIA/Carrier Documentation Standards

Tier 1 — Confirmed Booking with PNR (Zero Friction)
  • E-ticket PDF with confirmed PNR — clears EVA Air and China Airlines Amadeus Altéa TIMATIC checks at any origin airport
  • Return flight confirmed in GDS — same carrier; TIMATIC "TVL" clears; boarding pass issued after passport + TWAC verification
  • Onward to third country with confirmed seat — e.g. TPE–NRT or TPE–HKG within the 90-day window; Starlux agents accept printout without escalation
  • Tigerair Taiwan / Scoot confirmed return — Navitaire systems clear automatically; no agent review for standard visa-free passengers with confirmed return
  • High-speed-rail-plus-flight itineraries — flight segment out of TPE/KHH is what counts; NIA accepts any confirmed departure within the permitted stay
✓ Zero friction — confirmed PNR + TWAC confirmation = full carrier/NIA clearance at TPE, TSA, KHH and RMQ
Tier 2 — PDF / Digital Reservation (Accepted)
  • PDF dummy ticket with verifiable PNR — accepted by EVA Air, China Airlines, Starlux and the LCCs at check-in for Taiwan-bound sectors
  • Digital copy on phone — standard practice at Navitaire LCC counters (Tigerair, Scoot, Peach); printout recommended for long-haul EVA/CI desks
  • Ferry ticket to outlying routes plus later flight — NIA accepts any documented exit; the flight reservation remains the cleanest evidence
  • Travel-agency itinerary printout — common with Japanese and Korean group tourists; accepted by carrier desks at NRT/KIX/ICN for TPE sectors
  • Screenshot of booking with reference number — usually accepted at origin desks; weaker at NIA secondary questioning than a full PDF
Generally accepted — Taiwan NIA is pragmatic; a verifiable reservation PDF is the de-facto standard for visa-free tourists
Tier 3 — Verbal / Unverified (Risk)
  • Verbal departure intent — EVA/CI Altéa systems flag missing onward documentation; agents cannot override the TIMATIC condition for visa-free entries
  • One-way arrival with "will book later" plan — highest denied-boarding cause on TPE sectors; LCC Navitaire systems hard-flag it
  • Bank statement only — not accepted as onward proof; funds evidence does not substitute the documented departure requirement
  • Expired or cancelled reservation — PNR no longer verifiable; treated as no proof at both carrier desk and NIA secondary inspection
  • Missing TWAC on top of missing onward ticket — compounding red flag since Oct 2025; expect check-in refusal rather than an airport-side fix
Risk — carrier liability under the Immigration Act makes agents strict; TPE one-way boarding without documents is routinely refused

Taiwan INAD: NIA Refusal at TPE → Carrier Liability → Holding → Return Flight

1
NIA Refusal at TPE/TSA/KHH Immigration
A National Immigration Agency officer refuses entry — typical triggers: missing TWAC, no demonstrable onward travel on a visa-free entry, passport validity under 6 months, or prior overstay records. A formal refusal is issued under the Immigration Act; the passenger is moved to the NIA secure area and the carrier is notified via its station manager.
2
Carrier Liability Notice
The NIA/CAA issue a carrier liability notice: a TWD-denominated administrative fine per inadmissible passenger plus full return-cost responsibility. EVA Air, China Airlines and Starlux station managers at TPE handle the file; appeals run through the administrative-review track. This exposure is why Taiwan-bound check-in agents rarely wave through missing documents.
3
NIA Holding at the Airport
The passenger waits in the NIA holding facility at TPE (modern, but a restricted zone). The carrier bears accommodation and meal costs. Consular contact is permitted — for most Western travellers that means their Taipei-based trade office or institute, since formal embassies are rare.
4
Carrier Return Flight Arrangement
Thanks to very high frequencies to HKG, NRT, KIX, ICN and SE Asia hubs, most Taiwan INAD cases are flown out within 24 hours, normally on the delivering carrier's next rotation. The carrier funds the return sector in full.
5
NIA Record + Future Entries
The refusal is recorded in the NIA immigration database. A documentation-based INAD typically leads to heightened questioning on future entries rather than a formal ban; overstay-related refusals carry explicit re-entry bans. A clean file next time — valid passport, TWAC, confirmed onward ticket — normally restores smooth entry.

Airports in Taiwan

Taipei Taoyuan (TPE) Kaohsiung (KHH) Taichung (RMQ)

Frequently Asked Questions – Taiwan

Which airports in Taiwan check proof of onward travel?
+
Onward-travel checks for Taiwan happen mainly at the country's international gateways — Taipei Taoyuan (TPE), Kaohsiung (KHH) and Taichung (RMQ). There, immigration officers and airline check-in agents may ask to see a return or onward ticket before boarding and again at the immigration desk. Carry a flight reservation showing a planned departure date.
How long can I stay in Taiwan, and is an exit ticket required?
+
Taiwan allows visa-free entry. On arrival, immigration officers verify that you intend to leave within the permitted period — a return or onward ticket dated within your allowance is the standard proof, and overstaying can lead to fines or future entry bans. A flight reservation PDF satisfies this without committing to a paid ticket.
What is a common onward-ticket route from Taiwan?
+
Travellers leaving Taiwan often book short regional hops such as Taipei to Tokyo and Kaohsiung to Hong Kong. Enter your Taiwan departure airport (for example Taipei Taoyuan (TPE)), an onward destination and a travel date in the generator above, and MyJet24 produces a flight reservation PDF with a real PNR in about 30 seconds — free, with no account.
What is the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) and how do I complete it in 2026?
+
Since October 1, 2025 Taiwan replaced the paper arrival card with the mandatory online Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), operated by the National Immigration Agency. The process: (1) Go to the official portal twac.immigration.gov.tw — the card is completely FREE; avoid third-party sites that charge fees. (2) File within 3 days before your arrival in Taiwan (you can submit right after online check-in opens). (3) Enter passport details exactly as printed, flight number, arrival date and accommodation address in Taiwan. (4) Submit and keep the confirmation e-mail — airlines may ask for it at check-in alongside your onward ticket, and NIA officers can look it up on arrival. One TWAC per traveller including children; a new card is required for every new entry. No printout is technically required, but a saved PDF or screenshot avoids discussions at the counter.
Who qualifies for Taiwan's 90-day visa-free entry in 2026?
+
Citizens of roughly 65 countries enter Taiwan visa-free: the USA, UK, all EU/Schengen states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea get 90 days; some Southeast Asian nationalities get 30 or 14 days. Requirements checked at the border: passport valid at least 6 months beyond arrival, a confirmed return or onward ticket leaving Taiwan within the permitted stay (a MyJet24 dummy ticket satisfies airline check-in), the submitted TWAC confirmation, and no immigration violations on record. Nationalities not on the visa-exempt list (including mainland China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines outside special programmes) need a visitor visa from BOCA at boca.gov.tw or an eligible Travel Authorization Certificate.
Does Taiwan require proof of onward travel and how strictly is it checked?
+
Yes — proof of onward travel is a formal condition of visa-free entry. Enforcement happens primarily at check-in: EVA Air, China Airlines, Starlux, Cathay Pacific and the low-cost carriers flying to Taipei systematically ask for a return or onward ticket before issuing a boarding pass, because they face carrier fines for landing inadmissible passengers. NIA officers at TPE, KHH and RMQ can ask again on arrival, especially for long visa-free stays or one-way arrivals. A dummy ticket with a verifiable PNR from MyJet24 — routed for example Taipei to Tokyo or Kaohsiung to Hong Kong within your 90 days — satisfies both checks.
Can I extend my visa-free stay in Taiwan?
+
In general, no — Taiwan visa-free entries are non-extendable and you must leave by day 90 (or day 30/14 for shorter programmes). There is one standing exception: UK and Canadian passport holders may apply once to the National Immigration Agency BEFORE their first 90 days expire and extend to a total of 180 days in Taiwan. Everyone else who needs longer must leave and re-enter (a fresh TWAC and onward ticket required each time) or apply for a visitor visa through BOCA before travelling. Overstaying triggers fines, exit bans until payment, and future entry restrictions.
What documents do I need for a Taiwan visitor visa application in 2026?
+
If your nationality is not visa-exempt, the BOCA visitor visa requires: (1) passport valid 6+ months with blank pages, (2) the online application form from visawebapp.boca.gov.tw, printed and signed, (3) two 4.5×3.5 cm colour photos on white background taken within 6 months, (4) a flight itinerary or reservation showing entry and exit — a MyJet24 dummy ticket is accepted; embassies explicitly advise NOT to buy real tickets before approval, (5) proof of accommodation for the whole stay, (6) bank statements for the last 3 months, and (7) supporting documents by purpose (invitation letter, employment certificate). Processing at Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices typically takes 3-7 working days.
Can I use a dummy ticket for Taiwan?
+
Yes. For visa-free travellers a dummy ticket serves as the onward-travel proof that airlines demand at check-in, and for visitor-visa applicants BOCA accepts a flight reservation instead of a paid ticket. MyJet24 generates a free dummy ticket PDF with booking reference, QR code and professional airline format in 30 seconds.
Do I need a hotel booking for Taiwan?
+
The TWAC form asks for an accommodation address, and visitor-visa applications require proof of accommodation for the whole stay. A hotel reservation or a host address both work. If you need a confirmation document, MyJet24's free Hotel Booking tool generates one in seconds.
How long can I stay in Taiwan as a tourist?
+
Most Western passport holders get 90 days visa-free, counted from the day after arrival. Shorter 30- or 14-day windows apply to some Asian nationalities. Your onward ticket date must fall inside this window; overstaying leads to fines and entry bans. Only UK and Canadian citizens can extend in-country to 180 days.

Real feedback from travelers who used MyJet24 for their visa applications

4.8/5

"I originally used MyJet24 because I did not want to pay for a dummy ticket. That was the only reason. But what actually impressed me was how the PDF looked. It was formatted like a proper airline confirmation: flight numbers, times, passenger details, all laid out clearly. The Italian embassy in Hanoi accepted it without a word. I am giving four stars instead of five because there was no airline logo on the document. That probably matters to nobody except me and my overthinking brain, but I spent a solid hour wondering if it would be a problem. It was not."

"Submitted my Spain application through VFS Lagos this morning. I do not know if the visa will be approved yet. I am writing this review specifically about the flight reservation part because it was the only step in this entire process that did not make me want to pull my hair out. Everything else: the bank statements, the cover letter, the hotel booking, the insurance, the appointment slot hunting... painful. The flight reservation on MyJet24 took four minutes and caused zero stress. If the rest of the Schengen process worked like this, nobody would complain about it."

"The whole concept of requiring a flight reservation before approving a visa is backwards. You are asking me to plan a trip I might not be allowed to take. The airline will not refund me if the visa is refused. The embassy knows this. Everybody knows this. But the requirement exists, so you play the game. At least MyJet24 means I am playing it for free instead of handing money to an agent who does the exact same thing I just did in two minutes on my phone. Lagos consulate interview went fine. Officer could not have cared less about the flight document."

"B1/B2 interview at the Amman embassy. The officer asked one question about my travel dates. I pointed to the MyJet24 printout. He moved on. Entire interaction around the flight: five seconds. Visa approved. There is nothing complicated about this. You need a document, this gives you one, it is real, it works."

"I am the kind of person who reads the entire terms and conditions page before clicking accept. So naturally I spent twenty minutes examining the MyJet24 website before I trusted it enough to enter my passport number. Then I spent another fifteen minutes cross checking the booking reference on the airline website, then on CheckMyTrip, then on a third verification site I found on Reddit. Everything matched everywhere. The Canadian embassy in Ankara processed my visa without asking about the flight. Four stars because my personality will not allow me to give five stars to anything I have not used at least three times."

"Schengen visa number seven using MyJet24 reservations. Italy twice, France three times, Spain twice. Never once questioned by any consulate. I stopped thinking about flight reservations as a task somewhere around application number four. It takes less time than making coffee. The fact that I used to block lakhs on refundable tickets and wait weeks for refunds feels genuinely embarrassing in hindsight."

"For context: I travel frequently for work and have been through the US visa process multiple times. The flight reservation has always been the lowest-value, highest-annoyance part of the paperwork. MyJet24 eliminates that friction point entirely. The output is clean, the booking reference validates against the airline system, and the turnaround is measured in minutes, not hours. I have recommended it to several colleagues. Each of them had the same reaction I did: why did nobody tell me about this sooner."

"My brother has been in Toronto for six years. Six years. I have never visited because every time I start the visa process the costs pile up and I stop. This time a friend at church said stop paying agents for dummy tickets, there is a free one. I did not believe her. But she was right. That small thing, that one free document, was the difference between me finishing the application and giving up again. I am writing this from Pearson Airport. I made it."

"Everything about the actual ticket was good. My problem is that I generated it at 2am Manila time and then could not sleep because I kept wondering if I had entered my middle name correctly. There is no way to edit or regenerate without starting over completely. I ended up generating a second one just to be safe. Both worked. But a simple edit button or a preview screen before final generation would save people like me a lot of unnecessary 3am anxiety."

"My husband wanted to book actual flights before the visa was approved. I said that is insane, what if they refuse us and we are stuck with nonrefundable tickets to Paris. He said they offer refundable fares. I said have you seen what refundable fares cost on Air France in July. We argued about it for a week. Then my sister sent me the MyJet24 link and said you are both overthinking this. She was right. Generated two reservations, submitted them, got the visas, then booked the actual flights on a sale fare that was half the price of the refundable ones my husband wanted. I have not let him forget this."

"Ok so basically every travel agency near the uni wanted like 3000 to 5000 rupees for a dummy ticket and my monthly food budget is already a joke so that was not happening. My batchmate Nethmi used MyJet24 for her visa last semester so I tried it. Colombo to Frankfurt return. Done. The booking reference thing was legit when I checked. Took the printout to the German embassy. Got the visa. Nethmi gets full credit for the recommendation. MyJet24 gets credit for existing. My wallet gets credit for not losing another 5000 rupees."

"When you work remotely and move countries every few months, visa applications become part of your routine the way grocery shopping is part of other people's routines. You learn which parts actually matter (bank statements, cover letter, insurance) and which parts are just procedural box-ticking (flight reservation). The flight reservation is a box to tick. MyJet24 ticks it. I have used it from Cape Town, Lisbon, and Bangkok at this point. Same result every time. It is not exciting. It is just reliable. And when you are mid-move with seventeen tabs open, reliable is everything."

"Let me tell you about the agent on Gulshan Avenue. He sits behind a glass counter, types your name into the same kind of website I found in two seconds on Google, clicks a button, prints a page, and charges you 4,500 taka. Four thousand five hundred taka for something that took him forty five seconds. I know because I watched him do it for the person before me in the queue. I walked out, went home, did it myself on MyJet24, and have been angry about almost paying that man ever since. The French embassy in Dhaka approved my visa in twelve days. The agent had nothing to do with it."

"I sat on my bedroom floor at midnight with my VFS appointment twelve hours away, laptop open, genuinely close to tears because the travel agent had closed for the day and I had no flight reservation. Then I found this site. Three minutes later I had one. I just sat there holding my phone looking at the PDF. That feeling of going from completely stuck to completely sorted in three minutes is something I will not forget for a while."

"Picture it. Jakarta traffic. 8:47am. I am in the back of a Grab car fourteen minutes from the Italian embassy. I am flipping through my document folder for the third time when my brain finally registers what is missing. No flight reservation. It is at home. On my laptop. Which is on my bed. Which is forty minutes away in Kemang. My hands are slightly shaky. I pull up MyJet24 on my phone. Fill in the details. Get the PDF. Email it to myself. Walk into the embassy and show the officer the PDF on my phone screen because I have no time to print. She squints at it, writes something down, hands my folder back. Four days later: approved."

"I have tried three different dummy ticket services over the past two years. One charged me $18 and the booking vanished within six hours. Another gave me a PDF that looked like it was made in Microsoft Paint. MyJet24 is the first one where the output actually resembles what you get when you book directly on an airline website. Not identical, but close enough that nobody at VFS Dubai looked at it twice. Four stars because I still think a confirmation with the airline logo would look more polished, but honestly that is me being picky."

"Two adults, two kids, four separate reservations needed for VFS Karachi. I made a spreadsheet to track the application documents for each family member. The flight reservation was the only row that filled itself in under five minutes per person. Every other row on that spreadsheet took hours. All four bookings had their own references, all four checked out. Two weeks later, four visas in four passports. The spreadsheet is now a template for next time."

"UPDATE: Coming back to change this from four stars to five. When I first wrote this review three weeks ago I was still waiting for the visa and was nervous about the reservation expiring before the embassy looked at my file. It did not. Visa came through yesterday for all four family members. The reservations were long expired by then but that does not matter because the embassy checks them at the time of submission, not weeks later. So if you are worried about the same thing I was: relax. File it and forget it."

"Got my passport back yesterday. Spain visa approved. Seven working days. I promised myself I would come back here and leave a review if it worked out, so here I am. First Schengen application. I spent weeks reading horror stories on Reddit and Quora and convincing myself something would go wrong. Nothing went wrong. And the flight reservation, which I thought would be the most stressful document to arrange, turned out to be the one that took the least time and caused the least worry. Thank you. Genuinely."
