Dummy ticket — Hungary

An onward ticket for Hungary is a verifiable Wizz Air, Ryanair or Lufthansa flight reservation that the Országos Idegenrendészeti Főigazgatóság (National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing) at Budapest Ferenc Liszt (BUD) verifies during the EU border-code's onward-ticket inspection. Hungarian consulates and VFS Global apply the harmonised Schengen tariff of 90 euros (adults) and the half-rate 45 euros (children 6-12); Hungary remains outside the Eurozone and uses the Forint (HUF), with current exchange roughly 380-410 HUF per euro, while Wizz Air bases its global headquarters at BUD. MyJet24 issues a BUD-routed PDF with a real PNR — free, no credit card required.

A dummy ticket for Hungary is the document you submit to the embassy or VFS centre with your visa application. It shows your planned travel dates so the consular officer can verify your trip duration aligns with the visa category requested. This page focuses on the embassy-submission requirements, processing-time considerations, and visa-fee context for Hungary.

What Hungary Embassy Officers Look For on Your Dummy Ticket

The Hungary embassy reviewer wants: (1) full passenger name matching your passport application, (2) flight dates that fall WITHIN the visa-validity window you requested, (3) a round-trip itinerary if your visa category is short-stay, (4) a real-format PNR / booking reference, and (5) IATA-code airports rather than city names alone. Inconsistency between this booking and your hotel-reservation dates is the most common red flag.

Hungary Visa Processing Time and Documentation Checklist

For Hungary visa applications, the dummy ticket is one document among several (visa form, photos, financial proof, hotel booking, travel insurance). Embassies rarely process applications on dummy ticket alone — but a missing or invalid dummy ticket is a documented reason for refusal. Submit early enough that your itinerary dates remain valid throughout the embassy processing window plus a buffer of 5–10 days.

What is a Dummy Ticket for Hungary?

A dummy ticket (also called a flight itinerary or temporary flight reservation) is a legitimate placeholder booking used to satisfy visa application requirements. When applying for your Hungary visa, embassies ask for proof that you have onward or return travel planned — but they don't want you to buy a non-refundable ticket before approval.

MyJet24 generates a free flight reservation PDF with a booking reference in airline format. You can use it for your visa application, present it to immigration, or show it at check-in as proof of onward travel.

Hungary Schengen Visa — Paid Verified Ticket vs Free Screenshot in 2026

Hungary joined the Schengen zone in 2008 and its consulates process applications for all nationalities requiring a Schengen visa. Hungarian embassies — particularly those in South Asia and Africa — actively verify flight itinerary PNRs during document review. A free screenshot has no real PNR and will cause rejection. A MyJet24 dummy ticket ($7.90) provides a live GDS booking reference, significantly increasing acceptance probability for your EUR 90 visa application.

Hungarian Consulate Check
Hungarian embassy officers verify flight itinerary PNRs. A live MyJet24 reference passes; unverifiable PNRs from free tools cause rejection.
VFS Global Hungary
MyJet24 dummy tickets meet VFS Global Hungary requirements — the same e-ticket PDF format as a real airline itinerary.
$7.90 Protects EUR 90
Visa rejections are non-refundable. The $7.90 verified ticket is the most cost-effective way to protect your application from avoidable failure.

Why your Hungary visa file asks for proof of a flight

When applying for your Hungary visa, the embassy or consulate requires a flight itinerary as part of your application. Buying a non-refundable ticket before visa approval is risky — if your Hungary visa is denied, you lose the full ticket price. A dummy ticket from MyJet24 solves this problem: it provides a legitimate flight reservation PDF with a booking reference that satisfies embassy requirements without financial risk.

A MyJet24 dummy ticket for Hungary includes your full passenger name matching your passport, departure and arrival airports (including Budapest Ferenc Liszt (BUD)), travel dates aligned with your visa application, and a booking reference number. The PDF is generated in under 30 seconds and is accepted by Hungary embassies, consulates, and immigration checkpoints worldwide.

Hungary — frequently asked questions

I am at Budapest airport with a one-way ticket. How long does this take?
Less than a minute, standing where you are. It is the fastest-moving part of any Hungarian entry problem — considerably faster than the money declaration you may also need, and infinitely faster than the ninety-day arithmetic, which cannot be repaired at all once it has gone wrong.
I do not know yet whether I am leaving in two weeks or two months.
Then pick a date inside your remaining ninety and show that. Hungary is asking whether you have a way out of the zone, not extracting a promise. What it will not forgive is a date beyond the ninety days, because that describes a stay it has not agreed to.
Is one booking enough for a couple travelling together?
One booking, two documents — each in the name on that person's own passport. The biometric record works the same way, taken individually, with under-twelves photographed rather than fingerprinted.
How much does where I am staying matter?
Enough that it is one of the three things Hungarian border control may ask for, alongside your funds and your onward travel. They are usually asked together or not at all, and an address covering the stay you have just described settles the whole set.
Will the code be typed in anywhere?
Sometimes at check-in for a flight from outside the zone; almost never at the Hungarian counter. If you are entering overland from Austria or Slovakia there is no check at all — and nothing about that changes the count that has been running since you first entered the area.
Does the paid version change anything in Budapest?
Little for a fixed-date city break. More for the traveller heading onward through Serbia or Romania with no fixed return, where a record that resolves in an airline's system is the difference between an answer and an anecdote.
I am taking the bus to Belgrade next week. Does that count as leaving?
It does — Serbia is outside the area, so that crossing genuinely ends your Schengen count. It is also where the cash declaration rule applies, and where an undeclared sum becomes the seizure the guidance warns about. One journey, two rules.
Is it dishonest to show something I have not bought?
Not if you present it as what it is. The requirement is to show onward travel, and a booking evidences that; nobody asks for a receipt. Editing the file or claiming it is a purchased ticket makes it a false statement to a border officer — and Hungary sits on an external frontier where those are taken particularly seriously.
What is the rule about money leaving Hungary?
Undeclared cash can be seized when you leave. The threshold is 10,000 euros or more in cash or travellers cheques, and the guidance is unusually direct about the consequence rather than the obligation — most countries tell you to declare, Hungary tells you what happens if you did not.
Why does that matter more here than elsewhere?
Because the seizure happens on the way out, when the trip is over and the money is already in your bag. A declaration made on arrival costs a few minutes at a desk; a failure to make one surfaces at a departure gate in Budapest with a flight boarding, which is the worst possible moment for a customs conversation.
What might I be asked to produce on arrival?
Somewhere to stay, the means to pay for it, and a way out of the area — the three things Hungarian border control may want to see. It is the standard short list, applied at Budapest to arrivals from outside the zone and essentially never to anyone coming in from Vienna or Bratislava.
How long is the permission?
Ninety days inside any rolling 180, shared with every other country in the zone. Budapest draws a lot of repeat visitors on short trips, and short trips are exactly how the allowance drains without anybody noticing it happen.
What must my passport show?
An issue date inside the last ten years and an expiry at least three months past the day you leave the area. Both are area-wide conditions rather than Hungarian ones, and both are checked at Ferenc Liszt on flights from outside the zone.
Which departure satisfies the requirement?
One that leaves the Schengen area. Hungary borders seven countries and three of them — Serbia, Ukraine and, for these purposes, the crossings east — sit outside it. That geography makes a genuine exit cheaper and closer here than in most of central Europe.
How long does it take to produce the document?
Under a minute, from a phone, at a desk if necessary. The parts of a Hungarian trip that cannot be fixed that quickly are the money declaration, which has to happen when you arrive, and the ninety-day arithmetic, which cannot be fixed at all.
Which version suits a Budapest trip?
The free one covers a normal visit with dates already set. The paid one earns its place on an open-ended arrival, and for travellers using Budapest as the western end of a longer route out through Serbia or Romania.
Is showing an unpaid booking defensible?
Yes, when you describe it as a booking. Hungary asks whether you can show onward travel; it does not ask what you spent. Changing the document or calling it a ticket you bought would be a false statement to a border officer, which is an entirely separate category of problem.

"Works. Booking reference is real. Nairobi embassy did not blink. Moving on."

"Let me tell you about the agent on Gulshan Avenue. He sits behind a glass counter, types your name into the same kind of website I found in two seconds on Google, clicks a button, prints a page, and charges you 4,500 taka. Four thousand five hundred taka for something that took him forty five seconds. I know because I watched him do it for the person before me in the queue. I walked out, went home, did it myself on MyJet24, and have been angry about almost paying that man ever since. The French embassy in Dhaka approved my visa in twelve days. The agent had nothing to do with it."

"B1/B2 interview at the Amman embassy. The officer asked one question about my travel dates. I pointed to the MyJet24 printout. He moved on. Entire interaction around the flight: five seconds. Visa approved. There is nothing complicated about this. You need a document, this gives you one, it is real, it works."
