No, and no document can. Ukrainian airspace has been closed to civil aviation since February 2022 and there are no commercial departures to reserve. What can be arranged in under a minute is the flying part of the journey either side — into Kraków, Warsaw, Budapest or Bucharest, and home again from there.
How far ahead should the dates on that sit?
Further apart than you would allow anywhere else. Land crossings under wartime conditions do not run to a timetable, and queues vary by hours or days. A connection booked tightly against a border crossing is a connection you should expect to lose.
Does everyone in a group need their own?
One per passport, as everywhere. The more useful point for a group is that the ninety-day allowance is individual and the crossing records are individual, and under these conditions keeping your own note of each person's entry and exit dates is worth doing.
Is accommodation part of what gets asked?
The border is assessing whether you can support yourself, and onward tickets are named as one acceptable form of that evidence. Accommodation forms part of the same picture. None of it displaces the prior question, which is whether the journey should be made at all.
Will anyone check the reference?
At a check-in desk in Europe for the flight that gets you near the border, in the ordinary way. At the Ukrainian crossing itself, the State Border Guard Service is conducting documentary checks under conditions that have very little in common with an arrivals hall.

The open ones: Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Moldova. The Polish crossings carry the most traffic and the rail connections from Poland are the most-used route in. Russia, Belarus, the occupied areas and Crimea are closed.
Where does honesty sit in a situation like this?
In not overstating what a document is or what it covers. A reservation for a flight to Warsaw is real and useful. A document purporting to show a departure from Ukraine would describe something that has not happened for years — and presenting it anywhere would be a false statement about a fact anyone can check in seconds.
What does the travel advice say before anything else?
That the FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Ukraine and against all but essential travel to the rest. That comes before every entry rule on this page, and it should come before any decision about a booking. What follows describes the requirements as they stand; it is not an argument that the journey is a sensible one.
Can I fly into Ukraine at all?
No. Ukrainian airspace has been closed to civil aircraft since 24 February 2022 and air traffic remains suspended across every flight information region. There are no commercial flights in or out. Anyone entering does so overland, which changes the shape of every document question that follows.
So what use is a flight reservation here?
For leaving Ukraine, none — there are no departures to book. Where it has a use is the journey around the trip: reaching Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania or Moldova, and leaving from there afterwards. Being straightforward about that is more useful than pretending a Ukrainian departure can be documented.
How long may I stay without a visa?
Ninety days within any 180-day period, for British citizen passport holders. The rule itself is unremarkable and unchanged; the circumstances in which it applies are not.
What does my passport need?
Validity for the proposed duration of your stay, and nothing beyond that. The guidance is explicit that no additional period of validity is required — one of the very few countries anywhere that states the absence of a buffer rather than the size of one.
What is asked for at the border?
Evidence that you can support yourself, and return or onward travel tickets are listed as one acceptable form of that evidence. The requirement is framed around funds, with the ticket as one way of demonstrating them, rather than as a ticket requirement in its own right.
Which crossings are actually open?
The land borders with Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Moldova. The crossings with Russia and Belarus are closed, as are those into the occupied areas of Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson, and Crimea. That list is the practical geography of any entry.
How current is any of this?
It changes, and it changes faster than any page can follow. Everything here reflects the position on the date it was written. For a journey of this kind the official advice on the day is the only source worth acting on, and this page is not a substitute for it.
Is a held reservation an honest document in this context?
As a reservation, yes, and it is the ordinary instrument for the parts of the journey that involve flying. The dishonest version would be presenting a Ukrainian departure that cannot exist. Since the airspace is closed, any document purporting to show a flight out of Ukraine is describing something that does not happen.

"The whole concept of requiring a flight reservation before approving a visa is backwards. You are asking me to plan a trip I might not be allowed to take. The airline will not refund me if the visa is refused. The embassy knows this. Everybody knows this. But the requirement exists, so you play the game.
